To protect the reputation of the Web Group and to improve the quality of service its members deliver we require our members to qualify for membership. To be admitted to full membership a web designer must: - have Professional Indemnity Insurance for a minimum level of £250,000
- have a written complaints procedure available on his website
- supply references from 5 recent clients (within the last 18 months)
- agree to abide by the Web Group’s Code of Conduct
An applicant should also disclose, with details, whether he has ever: - been disqualified as a company director
- been declared bankrupt
- had any County Court Judgements made against him
In addition, the member’s own website will be subjected to an assessment by the Web Review Committee to ensure that the ‘public face’ of our membership presents a consistently high standard. Ideally we would like to see that our members’ websites are of the highest quality and are validated to W3C standards and pass recognised accessibility tests. But we realise that some designers will specialise in Flash, for example, and will want to showcase their talents on their own websites. Therefore we will be flexible in our view and assess members’ websites on a ‘fit for purpose’ basis.
